LERU celebrates its 20th anniversary!

21.01.2022

In 2022, the League of European Research Universities (LERU) celebrates its 20th anniversary. To commemorate this occasion, we will organise a variety of events, launch a number of publications and look back at our activities, evolution, and accomplishments during the second decade.

LERU kicks-off its anniversary year with the online LERU New Year’s Debate, entitled “University Autonomy threatened by EU Data Policy?”, which will take place on the 27th of January.

On Thursday evening 19 and Friday 20 May, our anniversary conference will take place in Leiden, European City of Science 2022. This event will be invitation-only and will provide a unique forum for the rectors of Europe’s leading research universities to exchange views with their counterparts from outside Europe and with high-level representatives from the government and business sectors. The main theme of the event will focus on “the distinctive role of academic institutions to foster resilient and sustainable societies”. High level speakers such as Mariya Gabriel (European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Education), Maria Leptin (ERC President), Christian Ehler (Member European Parliament), and Prof Mariana Mazzucato (University College London) will join us.

In the second half of the year, we willl organise a conference for all our Brussels based contacts and partners. More information will be published soon.
Finally, we will bring the members of the LERU groups together to celebrate and thank them for their extraordinary work.
