LERU Talks on digital sovereignity

20.06.2024

Earlier this week, during a second episode of LERU Talks, we explored what digital sovereignty means for universities and what the role of tech companies is.

Universities are public knowledge producers and custodians; they increasingly rely on companies to provide digital infrastructures and services. Both of them are dealing with an avalanche of regulation from the EU, aimed at creating a digital single European market with fair competition and respect for public values.

How does the data transformation affect universities and tech companies? How do they react? What do they want from the EU or from each other? These are some of the questions that were addressed in this interview by our two guests:

  • Prof. Mireille van Eechoud, Professor of Information Law at the University of Amsterdam
  • Mr Alexandre Roure, Head of Policy and Deputy Head of Office of CCIA Europe, the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA)

The interview was moderated by Dr Katrien Maes, Special Initiatives Ambassador Engagement & Impact at the LERU Office.

The interview was live streamed and the online audience was able to submit written questions which were answered live by the speakers. You can rewatch the interview on the LERU YouTube Channel here:
