LERU’s and LIBER’s position on Text and Data Mining

23.06.2014

LERU and LIBER (Association of European Research Libraries) set out their objections to the position on Text and Data Mining adopted in the EPC’s (European Publishers Council) recent Copyright Vision 2014.

LIBER is the principal network of academic and research libraries in Europe, with over 400 members. LERU is a network of 21 research-intensive universities in Europe. Both organisations advocate the position taken by the EC’s Expert Group on Text and Data Mining that European copyright frameworks should be modernised to include an Exception for Text and Data Mining.

Our letter and the LIBER TDM Factsheet explain more fully why this is the case.

LIBER and LERU are happy to discuss these issues further.
